Sam Emaminejad

Biography

Professor Sam Emaminejad is an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at UCLA and the founder and director of the Interconnected & Integrated Bioelectronics Lab (I²BL). Sam received his BASc (2009) and MS/PhD (2011/2014) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and Stanford University, respectively. Prior to joining UCLA, he was a joint-postdoctoral scholar at UC Berkeley and Stanford School of Medicine. Professor Emaminejad has received numerous honors and awards including the NSF CAREER, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) scholarship, Microsoft Merit, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation’s NARSAD Young Investigator award, and PhRMA Research Starter Grant (Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Program). Also, he has been awarded a “Distinguished Young Investigator Award” for leading a multi-center program on remote patient monitoring involving UCLA, Intermountain Healthcare and Stanford School of Medicine.

Biography

John Atkinson is Professor of Engineering Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton UK where his research interests include thick film technology, electronic instrumentation and sensors. In particular he has been working in the field of thick film (screen printed) sensor arrays for many years. He is editor of the scientific journal Microelectronics International.

Biography

Dr. Özdemir is an Assoc. Prof. of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Pennsylvania State University. Before joining Penn State, he was with Washington University in St. Louis (2009-2017). He received his BSc (1992) and MSc (1995) from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey, and PhD (2000) from Shizuoka University, Japan, all in electrical and electronics engineering. During 2000-2009 he was with The Graduate University for Advanced Studies and then with Osaka University working as project leader and senior scientist for various research programs of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on photonic quantum information processing. Dr Özdemir has authored over 140 peer-reviewed papers on topics ranging from PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian optics and optomechanics, microcavities, and plasmonics to quantum photonics and optical sensing. He is a member of OSA and a senior member of IEEE.

Biography

Johannes received his diploma in physics in 1991 and his Ph.D. in 1994 at University of Heidelberg, Germany. After post-doctoral research on low-temperature solid state physics at Brown University, RI, USA and University of Heidelberg he decided to focus on more applied endeavors and joined the MEMS team at Bosch in Reutlingen, Germany, in 2001. There he held different positions as MEMS design engineer, team leader of MEMS inertial design, and project leader of several predevelopment topics. In 2019 he joined Bosch Sensortec in the newly created role of Technology Manager and is responsible for ensuring a good match between product roadmaps and technology readiness for consumer electronics sensors.

Biography

Edwin C. Kan received the B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1984, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1988 and 1992, all in electrical engineering. From 1997, he was an Assistant Professor with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, where he is now a Professor. His main research areas include RFID, biosensors, RF indoor locating and tracking, CMOS technologies, semiconductor device physics, flash memory, and numerical methods for PDE and ODE. Dr. Kan received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineer (PECASE) from President Bill Clinton in October 2000. He has published over 250 journal and referred conference papers and has graduated 30 Ph.D. students. He also received several inventor and teaching awards from Cornell Universities.

(patent filed 1999, featured on cover of Linux Journal July 2000)
which he presented at IEEE ISSCC 2000 where he was named "The father
of the wearable computer".

Inventor of HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging, used in more than 2 billion smartphones. ("The first report of digitally combining multiple pictures of the same scene to improve dynamic range appears to be Mann 1993" -- Robertson etal, JEI 12(2).)

Xin Zhang (http://people.bu.edu/xinz) is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and the Photonics Center at Boston University. Her research interests are in the broad areas of metamaterials and microelectromechanical systems. She is an elected Fellow of AAAS, AIMBE, APS, ASME, IEEE, NAI, and OSA. Recently, Dr. Zhang's work on metamaterials, 1) acoustic metamaterials that enable highly efficient, air-permeable sound silencing and noise reduction and 2) magnetic metamaterials markedly boost MRI signal-to-noise ratio and thus significantly improve the performance of MRI, has drawn significant worldwide interest from the scientific community and industry, with the stories having been picked up by 200+ media outlets.

Biography

Francisco Molina-Lopez majored in Physics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Granada in 2009. In 2014, he completed his PhD in printed and flexible environmental sensors at EPFL (Switzerland). After graduating, he received the Early Postdoc Mobility fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation to conduct postdoctoral research in the Bao group at Stanford University, in collaboration with the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (USA). He worked there in organic and stretchable skin electronics until 2018. Afterwards, he gained industrial experience at the heart of the Silicon Valley by joining Apple as a touch-module senior process engineer. In 2019, he joined the Department of Materials Engineering of KU Leuven as an Assistant Professor. He is working in printed functional materials and devices for energy and sensing applications.

Prof. Yosi Shacham-Diamand, The Bernard L. Schwartz chair for nano scale information technologies, Department of Electrical Engineering - Physical electronics and the department of Material science and technology, Faculty of engineering, Tel Aviv University. D.Sc. EE 1983, M.Sc. EE 1980, and B.Sc. EE (Summa-cum Laude) 1978, all in the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. Currently he is the head of the international electrical engineering school at Tel Aviv University. He is also an endowed chair professor at the Thapar institute for engineering and technology, Patiala, India and the director of the TAU/TIET Food Security center of excellence.

His research is in the field of Micro and Nano electronics science and technology; specifically, electroless plating of metals and alloys, interconnect technology for ULSI circuits and flexible electronics, and electrochemical bio sensors the food, medical and agro applications.
